Up to 500 jobs could eventually be created at book retailer Waterstone’s 157,500 sq ft warehouse in Burton-upon-Trent.
The warehouse developed by Barberry Developments and GE Real Estate will be run by Unipart Logistics, which has won a new ten-year contract with Waterstone’s.
Several hundred jobs will be created when the warehousing and distribution facility for Waterstone’s complete product range, comes into operation next May. In the meantime, a £5 million fit-out is to be undertaken which includes the installation of a highly mechanised book sorting system to aid stores stocking shelves.
Barberry 157 is located within the 200-acre mixed use scheme Centrum 100, directly off the A38 dual carriageway, which has become extremely popular with high profile tenants and investors. Occupiers such as Tesco, Argos and Swish have national distribution centres in the vicinity.
Atisreal and Rushton Hickman advised the developer.
