TallyGenicom, traditionally known for its heavy duty dot matrix and laser printers, has entered the thermal printer market with the launch of three mid-range desktop printers.
The 7005, 7006 and 7008 printers cover two to four inch thermal transfer and direct thermal printing for industries such as retail, logistics, and healthcare.
Robin Edwardes, vice president and managing director, EMEA, says these printers promise to be 10 to 15 per cent cheaper than its competitors and 25 per cent faster, with a print head speed of up to eight inches per second.
The current size of the thermal printer market is around half a million per year, and Edwardes, reckons with its new range TallyGenicom will cover 60 per cent of it.
The 7005 features a 32-bit internal processor and 16MB of DRAM for a fast label-out print speed. It boasts an overall print speed of five inches per second.
The 7006 has a large roll capacity for high volume application and boasts a print speed of up to six inches per second. The top end 7008 model has the same output as a heavy duty printer, but at a mid-range price, and has a print speed of eight inches per second.
Each model can run standalone from a computer connection, as it has a programmable LCD menu and a USB input. The company is looking to extend its thermal range to include two more models by the end of this year. The printers are also future-proofed to print next-generation RFID tags.
