Last year 19 PhD students from 11 European countries where brought together by the Research and Development Committee for the 7th ELA Doctorate Workshop. The students were selected by the committee based on three page abstracts of their research proposals submitted before the workshop. In addition to the students, four professors were present to moderate the papers and the presentations: The organiser and chairman, Professor Michael Browne (University of Westminster, London); Professor Rommert Dekker (Erasmus University Rotterdam); Professor Herbert Kopfer (University of Bremen) and Professor Herbert Kotzab (Copenhagen Business School). The workshop was hosted by the ELA member-association AFT-IFTIM and cosponsored by the logistics service provider DANZAS/DHL.
Professor Herbert Kotzab will be the chairman for the next ELA Doctorate Workshop. The selection of the participants took place in March. The workshop will be held over three days from 25-27 June 2003 in Monchy St Eloi, near Paris, hosted by AFT-IFTIM.
The ELA Doctorate Workshop offers students the opportunity to work in European teams. In group assignments they judge on theoretical proposals such as a major EU research grant taking account of the effects on business, policy makers, the scientific communities and EU citizens. The moderators provide additional feedback and advice based on their own experience in submitting and evaluating research proposals.
The doctorate student presents a number of selected papers. These papers will be published by ELA and can be ordered on the ELA website, along with those of previous workshops. For more information you can contact the ELA Head Office.
