UPS is set to move its intra-Asia air hub from the Philippines to Shenzhen Airport in southern China, in a bid to improve customer service by reducing transit times across the region.
The Shenzhen hub is expected to measure almost one million sq ft and will include an express customs handling unit, sorting facilities, cargo handling and cargo build-up areas and ramp handling operations.
The hub, which is based near Hong Kong, is expected to be operational by 2010 following an estimated investment of £91 million.
In addition, UPS has also introduced five extra weekly flights in and out of Nagoya to help improve its service to the Chubu region in Japan.
