Debenhams has installed a flexible semi-automated hanging system by Dürkopp Fördertechnik at its regional distribution centre in Northampton.
The system is based on Dürkopp’s set carrier – a plastic hanging frame designed to allow garments to be manually transported along an overhead tubular rail framework.
Most garments are delivered to the distribution centre in 20 ft road container vehicles. Debenhams staff can then unload them directly onto set carriers running on a rail extended inside the vehicle.
Operatives can control the direction of the system and garments using “railway type” points in the overhead rail to divert and convey garments to where they are required.
The garment hanging bar includes a safety device to protect clothes from falling and has an optional second lower bar to double the carrying capacity when handling shorter items
The set carrier comprises an overhead rail, the carrier, switching points and vertical conveyor, which have all been configured to meet the department store’s needs.
