Trevor Ellis, the chief executive of transport and warehousing specialist CS Ellis Group, has been appointed chairman of the Transport Association, following a two-year stint as vice chairman.
He was unanimously elected by members at the association’s annual general meeting and will take over from Stephen Taylor of TM Logistics.
He said: “The next two years will be a challenging time for the road transport industry. It is more important than ever that the Transport Association’s membership is strong and that we support each other through our national self-help network.”
The Transport Association was involved in the protests held at the Houses of Parliament last Wednesday (2nd July).
He added: “Pressures are coming from a number of sources including fuel increases, foreign competition, future road taxing policies and ever increasing environmental pressure that adds to the considerable legislative burden we are under as an industry.”
However, he reiterated his belief that there is still a valuable role to be played by family-run medium-sized hauliers.
