Wincanton has enlisted automated materials handling company FKI Logistex to extend the GlaxoSmithKline northern distribution base in Middlewich, Cheshire.
FKI completed the original automated storage and retrieval system in 2005 after Wincanton first took over the 10-year contract.
As part of the deal FKI will extend the original installation of nine cranes and pallet conveyors and add two additional automated cranes.
Gerry Bonnar, contract general manager at Wincanton, said: “The initial installation was designed with the provision for easy expansion and we worked closely with FKI Logistex to ensure that we made full use of their automated materials-handling systems.”
