Volvo has signed a contract with finished vehicle logistics software company Vehnet to install its iTracks yard management system at all its sites worldwide.
The move follows trials at Volvo’s Multi Modal Terminal in Gent, Belgium and its New River Valley Plant in the US, where inbound trailers and containers are managed on behalf of Mack Truck and Volvo Truck.
Following implementation, the facilities reported more streamlined administration, improved visibility and increased operational control.
* Russian car importer and distributor Rolf Group is also set to employ Vehnet’s iTracks software as part of its expansion and development strategy.
The software will be implemented in three stages, the first of which is due for completion at the end of the summer.
Phase one will provide yard management operations at the company’s sites in Moscow and St Petersburg; phase two will help develop its pre delivery inspection, accessorisation and workshop functionality; while phase three will see the introduction of RFID tagging.
The system is designed to handle around 400,000 vehicles per year, over the next two years.
