Palletline is investing £20 million in a central hub at its 15-acre Solihull site ahead of plans to triple pallet throughout by 2020.
The drive-through, side-loading operation, which the company says is an industry first, will be capable of processing more than 25,000 pallets a day and will help to improve safety and performance thanks to its pedestrian-free design.
To enhance quality control, and separate it from sortation activities, Palletline also plans to construct a purpose built on-site quality control centre with scanning lanes capable of processing 80 vehicles an hour, as well as an undercover load checking area.
Following the move, the company will invest further in technological improvements, including supplying each vehicle with a data card as it enters the site in order to track its exact location, enabling each pallet to be identified more quickly and easily.
Web-based systems will also be implemented to create virtual bay facilities, highlighting volumes and consignment information to all member companies.
