The Port of Felixstowe has taken delivery of a further two ship-to-shore gantry cranes at its Trinity Terminal, increasing the total number of quayside cranes serving the port to 31.
The post-Panamax cranes have the ability to extend over 22 containers, have twin-lift capability and a heavy lift capacity of 85 tonnes.
Chris Lewis, chief executive officer of Hutchison Ports, which owns the Port of Felixstowe, said: “The recent additions to the Trinity fleet are already having an impact upon our operations at Felixstowe and are providing us with the capability to further enhance our customer services.
“They [the extra cranes] will improve the service we are able to offer to the ever growing number of ultra-large container ships calling at Felixstowe.”
In addition, the port’s southern rail terminal, which has recently been extended, has taken delivery of a rail-mounted gantry crane to help boost the volume of traffic moving by rail from the port.
All cranes were manufactured by Zhenhua Port Machinery Company in Shanghai and will undergo an intense commissioning and testing process before they become operational.
