The Tehran International Book Fair has enlisted Davies Turner to handle the delivery of books and publications to the event on behalf of many British and international publishing companies for the twenty-first year in a row.
Davies Turner carried 291-tonnes of books in 15 trailers, as well as several more tonnes of airfreight – the most it has ever carried for the fair – to the exhibition which was held in Iran in May.
Large quantities of books were also carried on Davies Turner’s weekly import container services from North America to its regional distribution centre in Dartford before being transhipped directly onto the company’s regular overland trailer departures for Iran in a bid to minimise handling and reduce the potential for damage.
Any books collected from mainland Europe were consolidated with items from UK publishers before being taken to Tehran, while Asian publishers used the company’s direct seafreight service from the Far East to Bandar Abbas. Shipments were then consolidated at the Iranian port on arrival and taken to the exhibition.
The majority of books were purchased at the event, but Davies Turner also operated a return service for any unsold stock.
* Elsewhere, Davies Turner has installed a warehouse management system from Red Prairie at a number of its regional distribution centres across the UK to improve services for its publishing clients.
