Aggregate supplier Tarmac Trupak has replaced its 26-strong trailer fleet as part of a five-year contract hire agreement with GE’s TIP Trailer Services.
Steve White, logistics and distribution manager at Tarmac Trupak, said: “Our distribution operation requires us to ensure the maximum payload possible as we distribute bulky and heavy products. By identifying the trailer specification with weight saving features, we have been able to achieve a maximum payload of 29.2 tonnes on these new trailers from TIP.”
The 26 SDC curtainsided trailers have been built to incorporate weight saving ideas, such as replacing the rear barn doors with sliding curtains. The trailers also feature a lifting axle to help improve fuel consumption, particularly when returning from a delivery.
Tarmac Trupak operates 21 tractor units alongside the curtainsided trailers distributing bagged aggregate to retailers, builders’ merchants and independents across the UK.
