The Department for Transport, in conjunction with Faber Maunsell, has launched a free online benchmarking programme designed to improve operational efficiency within the freight industry in England.
The pilot programme is now live and will run until March 2009. It has initially been created for vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes working within the primary distribution and aggregate sectors offering information on saving fuel, developing skills, equipment and systems, operational efficiency and performance management.
Once signed up, transport operators will then be able to anonymously compare their performance against other similar operators.
