Abbey Logistics Group has opened a 70,000 sq ft warehouse operation in Wirral to service the requirements of a manufacturing client, and UKWA chairman Tony Mohan has joined the firm to grow the warehousing side of the business.
The warehouse on Plantation Road, Bromborough provides 70,000 sq ft of ambient warehouse space, with the potential to increase this to 140,000 sq ft.
It marks Abbey’s first warehousing operation outside of the existing Henry Diaper & Co arrangement, which offers up to 500,000ft2 of space.
UK Warehousing Association chairman, Mohan, joins Abbey’s commercial team on a part time basis. His role will help deliver growth to the warehousing side of the firm’s business over the next five years.
Steve Granite, managing director at Abbey, said: “Opening our own warehouse was a logical step in the company’s development… We’ve recruited Tony Mohan to help identify new opportunities for warehousing business across the UK and also a number of people from the warehousing industry to help run it operationally.
“Abbey’s plan is to open more warehouses across the UK for new and existing clients. We have space available in the current Bromborough warehouse which we plan to fill first, then we’ll be looking for our next opportunity.”
