Amazon is to open second fulfilment centre in Doncaster – just down the road from its existing facility. The new 250,000 sq ft centre is scheduled to start operations in the autumn.
“Our existing Doncaster team has done an exceptional job of delivering a first rate level of service for our customers and we are delighted to open another site which will further draw upon the strong pool of talent in the area,“ said John Tagawa, Vice President of Operations, Amazon UK. “We will continue to create new sites, more jobs and provide a wide range of benefits for our employees.”
The new building is on Water Vole Way at the Firstpoint logistic park which is just off junction 3 of the M18. The existing 415,000 sq ft site on Balby Carr Bank opened in 2010.
Amazon expects to employ 300 people at the new site.
The new centre will be Amazon’s tenth in the UK. There are currently eight in operation: Doncaster, Dunfermline, Gourock, Hemel Hempstead, Marston Gate, Peterborough, Rugeley and Swansea Bay. Together, more than 7,000 permanent employees work at these centres.
Amazon’s ninth fulfilment centre is due to open in Dunstable in the autumn 2015.
