Asda has launched a dry cleaning service for its home delivery customers in London through a tie-up with Timpson Dry Cleaners.
Customers can pick the items they want dry-cleaning while ordering their groceries online. The items will be collected and placed in canvas bags when the home shopping is delivered or collected at one of Asda’s click and collect points; and delivered clean with their next Asda grocery order.
Items of clothing will be available to select on Asda’s grocery home shopping site or app. The minimum order is £25 and can be a mix of groceries and dry cleaning, or a full order of either dry-cleaning or groceries.
When the customer orders their next shop, it will automatically add their dry-cleaning to be delivered at the same time.
Commuters using Asda’s click and collect service at tube stations will also be able to take advantage of the service.
Asda reckons 60 per cent of shoppers already link their weekly in-store shop with their dry-cleaning run; and 40 per cent are more likely to do dry cleaning due to the scarcity of washing and drying facilities where they live.
London shoppers are also most likely to use a launderette than other areas of the country and said they wanted more options to make both their weekly shop and their cleaning more convenient for them.
Asda operates a dedicated home shopping picking centre at Enfield in north London. Chief operations officer Mark Ibbotson said it was starting the initiative in London “because it’s a business hub, where the majority of residents dry-clean their clothes every week and are likely to embrace the extra convenience this will give them”.
Timpson has a presence in a number of Asda stores where it offers a range of services including dry cleaning, key cutting, shoe repairs, watch and mobile phone repairs.
