A 332,000ft² warehouse in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire is to be occupied by Boughey Distribution, a Cheshire-based logistics provider serving the food industry.
The company hopes that this new facility, located on Lymedale Business Park, will support the growth of its existing customers as well as new business acquisitions.
Boughey Distribution operates two other sites, both in Cheshire: its original warehouse in Wardle, near Nantwich, and a second in Crewe. The latter is a 240,000ft² warehouse opened in 2020.
These sites have a combined capacity of 135,000 pallet spaces. With the acquisition of the new warehouse in Newcastle-under-Lyme, this is set to rise to 187,000 across the three sites.
Acquired on a 15-year lease from Aver Property, the warehouse is 18m high with 57 trailer spaces and five tractor unit spaces, an 88m deep yard and a two-storey office.
Managing Director of Boughey Distribution, Angela Carus commented: “We have been on the look-out for suitable additional warehouse capacity for some time and are very fortunate to have sealed a deal with Aver Property. The warehouse is of the highest specification and within easy reach of our two existing sites in Wardle and Crewe.
“Demand for space from our existing customers and newly-acquired business is on the increase which is great news for us.
“Our industry is constantly evolving and requires quick reactions and total flexibility for customers. For example, the biggest challenge during 2023 was managing unpredictable retail demands because of the current cost-of-living crisis and poor summer weather which both affected sales for our customers. This instability had a knock-on effect on customer stockholdings which created pressure on warehouse space.
“We are very pleased to have secured this additional space.”
The company confirmed that it will begin racking installation and general fit-out of the new warehouse immediately. Following the expected arrival of stock in spring, the warehouse is set to be operational by autumn 2023.
