RHA chief executive Richard Burnett has called for the number of migrants at the Calais migrant camp to be “reduced as quickly as possible”. The association said that despite news of clashes between riot police and migrants due to the dismantling of the camp, it remains supportive of the actions to clear the area.
“It is essential that the number of migrants in the camp is reduced as quickly as possible. This will reduce the number of migrants and thereby reduce the number of attacks on HGV drivers. It will also make it easier for the French security forces to contain the situation,” said Burnett.
“Of course, it is absolutely essential that any children and other vulnerable people currently living in the camp are given clean, safe accommodation and access to facilities that are currently unavailable to them.
