More carriers are stepping in with offers of work for City Link staff who have been made redundant as a result of the company going into administration on Christmas Eve.
APC Overnight, DX Group and UK Mail are all advertising employment opportunities for City Link staff on their web sites. CitySprint also says it is recruiting couriers.
Other carriers are making use of City Link Job Board, a Facebook page set up to help City Link staff get back into employment.
Companies using the site include Tuffnells, Eddie Stobart, Norbert Dentressangle, Yodel, Pharmed, and TNT. A number of recruitment agencies are also advertising on the site.
Some 2,356 City Link employees were made redundant on New Year’s Eve after a last ditch bid for the company failed.
371 people have been retained to deal with the parcels that remain within the company’s network, and to assist in winding down its operations. The depots will remain open for a few days to allow customers and intended recipients to collect their parcels.
Hunter Kelly, Charles King and Tom Lukic of EY’s Restructuring team were appointed joint administrators on 24th December.
Kelly said: “City Link Limited has incurred substantial losses over several years. These losses reflect a combination of intense competition in the sector, changing customer and parcel recipient preferences, and difficulties for the company in reducing its cost base.
“The strain of these losses became too great and all but used up Better Capital’s £40m investment, which was made in 2013 and intended to help to turn around the company. Despite the best efforts to save City Link Limited, including marketing the company for sale, it could not continue to operate as a going concern and administrators were appointed.”
