Ahead of the 25th Supply Chain Excellence Awards tonight, LogisticsManager.com caught up with Mars and Maersk, nominee in the Unipart Logistics Sustainability category at the 2021 Awards.
Taking place at the Hilton on Park Lane in London later on, the Supply Chain Excellence Awards are set to be a night of celebration, as the best in the logistics industry gather together on this very special occasion.
How does it feel to have been shortlisted for a Supply Chain Excellence Award?
The Mars & Maersk team feel very honoured and excited to have been shortlisted
What has changed in your project since you entered?
The project team feel more energised that their hard efforts and innovative approach is being recognised by our industry peers, even just being shortlisted is an achievement.
Holistic collaboration, by companies coming together, around end-to-end supply chain integration and ensuring that sustainability and carbon reduction is a primary driver and consideration in any strategy and solution that is delivered
What are you most excited for on the night of the Awards?
Potentially wining the category award but overall, just the recognition of the team hard work over the past 12 months. Also meeting peers from our industry in a face-to-face setting, especially after the past 20 months of Covid restrictions.
What do you think is the most important thing to focus on now in the industry? What should be the biggest priority when it comes to change for the better?
Holistic collaboration, by companies coming together, around end-to-end supply chain integration and ensuring that sustainability and carbon reduction is a primary driver and consideration in any strategy and solution that is delivered.
What are you looking forward to after the Awards?
Building on our sustainability solution as a foundation to deliver supply chain Innovation and delivering value to our respective customers,
What made you decide to compete for the Supply Chain Excellence Awards?
To demonstrate and validate with the supply chain industry and peers the Mars & Maersk strategy and innovation can make a real difference to our environment. Additionally, to motivate other companies to go down a similar path and maximise the impact on the environment.
We hope now to replicate and grow our solution across other industry supply chains and customers, so that we can further reduce our Carbon emissions and help reduce the impact to our world’s environment from a supply chain perspective
How will you celebrate if you win? Where will you keep the trophy?
We will share our success with our joint team and leaders who cannot be there on the night via recognition award and team events. The trophy will be displayed in the Mars HQ.
What are your hopes for the project going forward? What are your next steps?
We hope now to replicate and grow our solution across other industry supply chains and customers, so that we can further reduce our carbon emissions and help reduce the impact to our world’s environment from a supply chain perspective.
What difference did the project make for your company and for the sector?
We have broken traditional supply chain control tower approaches and demonstrated that sustainability and carbon reduction can be a primary driver in operational execution of the supply chain. We believe that our peers in the supply chain industry can replicate this strategy and collectively we will address climate change via carbon reduction.
What are your impressions of the Supply Chain Excellence Awards generally?
The Supply Chain Excellence Awards are recognised as the crème de la crème and as a prestigious award to be part of. Additionally, it is very well run and with a good cross section of experienced and knowledgeable judges.
Can you sum up 2021 from a supply chain perspective?
2021 has been exceptionally challenging and has almost turned the supply chain upside-down. The Maersk team have reacted to these challenges, as Maersk moves 20% of the world’s goods and products and strived to ensure products and goods are delivered on time.
Do you have any advice for future Supply Chain Excellence Awards competitors?
Enjoy the process and try to have fun – it’s not all about winning but just being part of the whole Supply Chain Excellence Awards is an achievement and remember to keep striving to be the best.
