The Consumer Goods Forum has called on businesses around the world to help fight all forms of forced labour from global supply chains by not tolerating forced labour within their operations. The International Labour Organization (ILO), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Institute for Human Rights and Business (IHRB) reaffirmed this.
The CGF asks businesses to accelerate action to eliminate forced labour in line with international frameworks such as the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
Despite governmental responsibility to protect human rights, CGF urges to take responsibility respect human rights in its value chains and own operations and play a key role in combatting forced labour. “Forced labour is a complex issue that cannot be solved without cross-sectoral collaboration,” said Olaf Koch, chairman of the management board, METRO AG and co-chair of CGF Board.
