Dematic, the automated intralogistics solutions company, will have a strong presence at the Robotics & Automation Show (10th- 11th October, Arena MK, Milton Keynes) with a powerful presentation by Crystal Parrott, Vice President of Dematic’s Robotics Centre of Excellence, and highlights from Dematic’s industry leading technology, intelligent automation and robotics on stand No.634.
Speaking on ‘Robotic technologies enabling the migration to Lights Out Distribution’, Crystal Parrott will describe how innovation in key technologies is advancing robotic capabilities, making robots an increasingly viable and attractive option for gaining productivity improvements in the warehouse. Key questions will be addressed, such as: What are the options for consideration? What are the roadblocks to widespread adoption? And how does this support the changing logistics landscape?
“Robotics is being advanced by the gaming, education and service industries where important work on algorithms for ‘virtual world’ simulation, for instance, has elevated the technology around autonomous navigation which we apply to AGVs and AMRs,” explains Crystal Parrott. “Likewise, the interaction of service robots with people is beneficially influencing the application of collaborative robotics in the logistics environment.”
She continues: “Technology is already available to improve operations right now, it just needs to be applied where it fits – examples being, palletising, depalletising, pallet movement and product movement within warehouses.
“With piece picking the solutions are still evolving but they are currently able to handle a wide variety of items, making them really useful in packing. Just because a robotic piece-picking cell may only be able to address 40% of the SKU type it can still make a big difference to productivity.
“These are exciting times for robotics, and logistics operations stand to benefit significantly from the huge advances taking place,” says Crystal Parrott.
Visitors to the Dematic stand will be able to find out about all the latest advanced technologies available for warehousing and fulfilment operations – automated solutions for every warehouse function.
Crystal Parrott’s presentation will start at 2:00 pm in the Seminar Theatre, Arena MK, Milton Keynes, Wednesday 10th October. Details at www.roboticsandautomation.co.uk
