Logistics provider DFDS, has ordered 100 electric trucks in one of the ‘largest ever’ global orders for commercial heavy-duty electric trucks.
The company has ordered 100 vehicles to begin replacing its current fleet of conventional vehicles, and drive down its emissions, will start to be introduced in its European haulage routes in late 2022.
The order is a result of growing demand for sustainable logistics operations and is just one example of a series of measures that DFDS is taking to reduce carbon emissions across its pan-European ferry and logistics network. The company has a target to reduce emissions by 45% by 2030.
The heavy-duty Volvo FM Electric truck can carry a maximum weight of 44 tonnes, and can travel up to 300 km when fully charged. Each truck can be charged either via overnight depot charging, each one comes with an AC charger, or via high power DC charging en-route. The trucks will be used for short and long journeys in DFDS’ supply chain.
Niklas Andersson, Executive Vice President and Head of Logistics Division at DFDS said: “At DFDS, we’re determined to become carbon neutral and offer a sustainable supply chain for our customers across Europe. Electrification is an important element in this journey to reduce our carbon footprint.
“These best-in-class vehicles will join our fleet of trucks in 2022 and our close collaboration with Volvo, benefiting from their expertise in eco-driving, will help DFDS stay competitive during the transition to more sustainable forms of transport.”
