UK-based online fashion retailer Boohoo has partnered with DHL Supply Chain to manage the first Boohoo distribution centre across the Atlantic.
DHL will lead the operation of a new 1.1million ft2 distribution centre in Pennsylvania, expected to open in early 2023. It is hoped that the centre, when operational, will be able to provide residents of New York City’s metro region with next-day delivery of Boohoo orders.
Boohoo’s Supply Chain Director David James explained the reasons behind the expansion, saying: “We have a loyal and growing customer base in the US and want to provide them with a faster and smoother service than we can currently offer from the UK. Investing in our distribution network in the US illustrates the confidence we have to grow our business in this important market.”
Kraig Foreman, President of e-commerce at DHL Supply Chain, believes that: “Although Boohoo has been servicing the U.S. through its existing network in the U.K. since 2006, the company’s growing order volumes and customer demand [from the USA] in recent years made a US-based distribution centre for direct-to-consumer fulfilment a necessity”.
It is expected that the new warehouse will lead to the hiring of 1,000 associates in its opening year and up to 2,500 after three years.
