DIY group Leroy Merlin has awarded a four year contract to Ceva Logistics to handle warehousing and distribution in Italy.
Ceva will manage Leroy Merlin’s new warehouse at Castel San Giovanni in northern Italy which handles a range products, from doors and lighting to synthetic grass.
The 92,000 sq m warehouse employs 150 people and serves 48 stores across Italy as well as 20 others located in Greece, Cyprus and Romania.
It is divided into two areas: a dedicated cross-docking zone and an e-commerce fulfilment centre. Some 25,000 journeys will be required annually to service the Leroy Merlin business and approximately 40 per cent of them will use intermodal transport services.
Leroy Merlin’s director of logistics Italy, Marco Lattuada said: “Through the expertise Ceva has developed in the retail sector, Leroy Merlin can now draw concrete benefits for its business in terms of flexibility and reductions in time and logistics costs. I believe Ceva will simplify the process for us and provide efficient management, with the aim being to accelerate our growth path.”
