LGV drivers might not be receiving the training they need to operate safely and efficiently, according to RTITB, which offers a range of driver training courses.
It highlights the growth in home deliveries, including at night, and points out that 40 per cent of collisions occur in the hours of darkness despite the fact that on 15 per cent of vehicle miles are travelled at night.
Managing director Laura Nelson said: “With an increase in deliveries to be fulfilled each day, drivers are experiencing as much pressure as the depots picking the items and must also handle the pressures of time-specific deliveries, all while providing a high customer service level.”
