DSV has partnered with warehouse robotics specialist Exotec to modernise operations at its logistics centre in Venlo, the Netherlands.
The global transport and logistics provider has installed Exotec’s Skypod automated storage and retrieval system at the site. The solution comprises around 100 autonomous robots and supports fulfilment operations for multiple retail brands, managing around 90,000 bins and trays.
Designed to increase operational efficiency, the goods-to-person system enhances flexibility and scalability, enabling DSV to expand processing capacity and storage density in response to changing demand and product assortments without requiring major modifications to the facility.
The installation is intended to help DSV meet strict service level agreements while controlling operational costs and maintaining resilience during peak trading periods such as seasonal campaigns.
The system also includes a mezzanine level dedicated to returns processing and incorporates automated box opening, closing and labelling capabilities.
Barbara Klep, Managing director of the contract logistics division at DSV, said: “In our warehouse, we use state-of-the-art storage systems and innovative automation to respond optimally to our customers’ requirements and growth ambitions.
“The Skypod system gives us the agility to adapt to changing needs while safeguarding our service levels and sustainable performance.”
The news reflects the continued investment by third-party logistics providers in automation. Earlier this year Bleckmann has announced the go-live of a new ASRS at its Almelo–Newton site, also in the Netherlands.
