Eurotunnel has recorded a 21 per cent year-on-year rise in freight tonnage alongside an increase in rail freight train services of 14 per cent, and a six per cent rise in the number of trucks using its shuttle services.
For the year ending December 2014, Eurotunnel carried more than 1.6m tonnes, compared to 1.3m tonnes in 2013.
More than 1.4m trucks were transported by the carrier’s shuttle service for the full year, up from 1.3m the year previous.
MyFerryLink, the ferry service that Eurotunnel is trying to sell after losing a competition case, saw truck traffic for the full year rise 22 per cent.
