The Suez Canal Authority (SCA), has announced today, Monday 29th March, 2021, that the Panamanian container ship, Ever Given, has been successfully refloated.
Tow manoeuvres led to the restoration of 80% of the vessel’s direction; with the stern 102 metres away from the bank of the Canal now instead of four metres prior to the refloating.
10% of global trade passes through the Suez Canal, and commodities that have been stuck or delayed due to the block, have impacted worldwide supply chains.
The chartered vessel will be repositioned to the Great Bitter Lake in the Canal for an inspection of its ‘seaworthiness’ according to the Evergreen Line. The outcome of the inspection will determine whether the ship can resume its scheduled service.
Ever Given is a 20,000 TEU-class container ship, currently leased by Evergreen Marine Corp. under a time charter agreement. The ship is deployed on a Far East-Europe service route.
