Felixstowe has been granted planning permission for the first stage of a 1.4 million sq ft logistics park. The planning permission covers four warehouses, which combined will be close to 1 million sq ft.
The planning permission arrives just a month after completion of an extension to Berth 9 and the introduction of a £4 million expansion of the port’s foodstuff examination buildings.
“The receipt of planning permission is a significant step towards the delivery of this latest major development at the port,” said Mark Seaman, finance director at the port. “There has already been significant interest from potential occupiers and the final design of each of the warehouses will be agreed with individual tenants to meet their specific requirements.”
He added that the location of the logistics park in the UK’s biggest container port, adjacent to the “terminal at which the world’s largest and most efficient container ships call,” would be beneficial to tenants.
The rest of the site will be developed as part of a second stage, if awarded planning permission.
