Freightliner has made a commitment to help strengthen competition in the rail freight sector, according to The Office of Rail and Road (ORR).
After receiving a complaint of anti-competitive behaviour, the ORR launched an investigation into the transport of deep-sea containers by rail in November 2013. The regulator found that arrangements between Freightliner and its customers was potentially limiting competition with other rail freight companies for the shipping of goods between ports and key inland destinations.
The ORR said these issues have been addressed by Freightliner’s commitments, which will enable other rail freight companies to have access to more opportunities to compete for the transport of deep-sea containers.
