GB Railfreight has run its first train for Hanson UK – transporting aggregates from Somerset to Wellingborough Rail Yard, as part of a 12-month rolling contract. GBRf said that the service “gives security to the Wellingborough site for the wider rail freight industry, following the end of London Underground use next year”.
“Given the market challenges rail freight currently faces, it is also an important development for GB Railfreight and the wider industry,” said managing director John Smith.
“Aggregates provides a key source of growth for the industry, as we support the British construction sector in its drive to build new homes and infrastructure.”
The rail freight company will operate on average one service per week, using Class 66 and 22 JNA wagons.
