Logistics company GEODIS has implemented mobile computers and Bluetooth scanners from Zebra Technologies to ‘digitally transform’ its loading and unloading operations at all 110 of its Distribution & Express branches.
More than 2,900 Zebra TC21 mobile computers and RS5100 Bluetooth scanners have been deployed by GEODIS since 2022, the company says. These will replace its previous solution of the Zebra WT40/WT41 mobile solution and the MC3200 handheld terminal.
The new solution uses an Android platform rather than the Windows-based platform that GEODIS’ previous solution used – a migration that Zebra deemed necessary to ‘further increase’ GEODIS’ operational efficiency.
GEODIS also opted for a lighter solution in the RS5100 Bluetooth Wearable Scanner – a single-finger ring scanner with ‘five interchangeable wearing styles’.
Sébastien Faivre, Technical and Performance Director for Distribution & Express at GEODIS, said: “Dock operator user feedback has been very positive. Our new, lighter handheld solution reduces operator fatigue, and the RS5100 finger scanner is more comfortable to use, improving user performance.”
As well as boosting worker satisfaction and making the jobs of GEODIS’ dock operators easier, this investment in technology is motivated by a desire to further improve loading and unloading operations in order to meet growing customer demand.
Stéphane Loyer, Zebra Technologies’ Transportation and Logistics Director for France, added: “This wearable mobile solution has delivered quicker, efficient, and accurate operations.
“Across France and Europe, Zebra and its partners are creating digital solutions, enabling transportation and logistics customers to meet the growing demands of e-commerce to optimise their frontline workers and achieve their business growth objectives.”
Zebra Technologies exhibited at IntraLogisteX 2023 in March. IntraLogisteX is returning to the NEC, Birmingham on 19-20 March 2024, once again co-located with Robotics and Automation and with the new addition of the Sustainable Supply Chain Exhibition.
