GLS Group, the international B2C parcels division of Royal Mail, said it is anticipating record volume increases across Europe in the run-up to Christmas.
It said its Christmas peak could see volumes rise by 30% to 40%.
The group said it had invested some €150 million (£134.5 million) in its European network during 2020, opening some 20 locations and expanding the capabilities of some of its existing facilities – by up to 50% in the case of sites in Essen, Barcelona, Budapest and Poznan.
Chief Executive Martin Seidenberg said: “We are consistently driving forward the international capacity expansion and the sustainable orientation of our Europe-wide network. We see our investments as an important pillar of future-oriented and cross-border parcel logistics.”
Seidenberg also said that GLS Group was “pushing ahead” with the digitisation of its parcels logistics capabilities – including an investment in next-generation digital handheld scanners – as well as cross-border returns services.
