As well as planning a new mid-box warehouse for Walsall, Hortons Estate is planning to build a Greggs bakery to feed industrial workers in the area.
The developer investor has submitted pans to Walsall Council for a 36,500 sq ft warehouse on the Aldridge Industrial Estate as well as for a 1,300 sq ft retail unit which it says has been pre-let subject to planning to Greggs.
The development on an 1.6 acre plot off Wharf Approach in Aldridge is expected to be speculatively developed.
The warehouse facility would have two loading doors , 10m eaves and have 31 car parking spaces as well as cycling spaces and a service yard.
Within the planning statement for the proposed development the applicant said: “The business model of the proposed Greggs will be to provide a sustainable facility for workers within the immediate industrial estate by providing baked and convenience goods for meal times during employment hours for local workers in a location which is easily accessible to the local workforce.”
