Discounters Aldi and Lidl were the big winners in the grocery market for the 12 weeks to 21st May with sales growing by almost 20 per cent, according to the latest figures from Kantar Worldpanel.
Overall, sales were up 3.8 per cent year on year. Ocado and Iceland also performed strongly.
Morrisons was the strongest performer among the big four, followed by Tesco.
Chris Hayward of Kantar said: ““Once again all ten grocers have seen sales increase, no doubt boosted by higher prices as inflation continues. Own label is also a major source of growth for all of the retailers, with sales up an impressive six per cent year on year in contrast to branded products which grew by just 0.6 per cent during the same period.
