Heathrow Airport has pledged to develop a series of supply chain hubs across the UK if its expansion plans are accepted by the government.
If the plans are approved, Scotland will be the first location to house a supply chain hub developed by the airport. This hub will be an assembly depot for materials – the airport said that this would be “Europe’s largest private infrastructure project.”
The new hub would “give Scottish SMEs convenient, direct access to Heathrow’s supply chain.”
“Heathrow’s Supply Chain Hub plans present an exciting opportunity for a range of suppliers across the length and breadth of Scotland,” said Inglis Lyon, managing director of Highlands and Islands Airports. “Should the UK Government approve the development, the HIAL team would be delighted to play our role in increasing economic growth through supporting improved connectivity.”
