HGV drivers caught on their mobiles whilst driving could face stricter penalties if proposals by the Department of Transport are successful. A DfT consultation is seeking feedback on proposals to increase the number of points a HGV driver gets for driving while on the phone from three to six.
The fixed penalty notice could increase from £100 to £150 for all drivers. Non-HGV drivers may face an increase from three to four points on their licence if caught on their mobile whilst driving.
This consultation closes on 15th March 2016.
