Solent Gateway, a joint venture between GBA (Holdings) and David MacBrayne, has won the Ministry of Defence contract to run the Marchwood Military Port, a 225 acre facility on Southampton Water, which has been used for the movement of troops and equipment since 1943.
The 35 year concession starts in April next year and Solent Gateway will manage military movements through the port and develop trades to maximise the potential for commercial activities.
GBA, based in Grimsby, was established some 28 years ago providing services to the automotive, shipping and renewables industry. It currently operates from 14 ports in the UK handling over 1.8 million vehicles per annum.
It also has operations in Turkey and India. The Scottish based David MacBrayne through its subsidiary CalMac Ferries has been operating ferry and port facilities up and down the west coast of Scotland for the past 160 years and currently manages operations at 24 ports, harbours and slipways.
