Nine out of ten vans stolen and recovered by the Tracker system last year were taken without the owner’s keys – up from 82 per cent last year, the company has revealed.
Tracker’s head of police liaison Clive Wain said: “In 2018, our analysis shows that nearly half a million pounds worth of vans were stolen and recovered by Tracker. Keyless entry technology is becoming the norm in the LCV market, but thieves are constantly finding new ways to exploit weaknesses in modern security systems, which is leading to a rise in van thefts.”
The Ford Transit, the UK’s most popular van, was the most stolen and recovered, followed by the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
