Housebuilder Barratt London has paid £15 million for a brownfield site on Ilderton Road in South Bermondsey, London (SE1), to develop a major ‘bed-and-sheds’ scheme.
The 0.96-acre site, off the Old Kent Road, comprises the former Leathams warehouse facility which has planning consent for a 28-storey residential tower on top of a 30,000ft2 industrial unit.
This is one of the first times a co-location/beds-and-sheds consent has been acquired by a national housebuilder. This could now pave the way for more safeguarded industrial sites to be delivered for housing, freeing up brownfield employment sites while providing both much-needed homes and jobs.
Savills advised Leatham on the sale of the site.
