Maersk is going to acquire Pilot Freight Services, adding big, bulk first, middle, and last mile logistics services to its offering.
With the intended acquisition of Pilot, Maersk will extend its integrated logistics offering deeper into the supply chain of its customers.
Pilot will add specific new services within the fast-growing big and bulky e-commerce segment, thus increasing cross-selling opportunities. It will also create cost synergies by leveraging capabilities across the different parts of service solutions.
“By investing in first mile, middle mile, and last middle and integrating them, we meet a clear customer demand. This acquisition will add even more expertise and supply chain capacity to customers facing capacity constraints and multiple handoffs with providers in the B2C and B2B space”, said Narin Phol Regional Managing Director at Maersk North America.
Pilot uses mainly 3rd party providers of trucking and has access to controlled capacity which facilitates a high quality first, middle and last mile service offering.
Both companies will operate as independent businesses and run operations as usual until Q2 2022 when the transaction is estimated to gain approval.
