Northamptonshire Police have said they have arrested a man on suspicion of arson in connection with a huge fire that took place at a Gardman warehouse in Daventry this week. According to the garden centre operator, the warehouse has been totally destroyed, along with all its stock.
At its height, more than 50 fire-fighters were tackling the blaze.
Gardman issued this statement on its web site: “As communicated yesterday, thankfully there were no casualties and the emergency services remain on site as they continue to investigate. Northamptonshire Police have confirmed they have arrested a man on suspicion of arson in connection with the fire.
“While we do not yet have full access to the site, our initial assessment is that the damage sustained by the fire has destroyed both the stock and the building. We are now working tirelessly on a business recovery plan to restore our supply position and help our customers.”
