Microsoft has introduced its new supply chain platform, which will use technology like AI and Software as a Service (SaaS) applications to help organisations ‘maximise their existing supply chain investments’.
The technology conglomerate describes its platform as ‘an open, collaborative and composable foundation for data and supply chain orchestration’.
This is building on from the custom supply chain solutions that Microsoft have developed for companies like Mercedes-Benz.
“We are making it easier for customers to leverage the full Microsoft Cloud to enhance their supply chain” said Charles Lamanna, Corporate Vice President of Business Applications and Platform at Microsoft. He added: “The Microsoft Supply Chain Platform provides building blocks across Microsoft Azure, Dynamics 365, Microsoft Teams, and the Power Platform for customers to adopt capabilities that address their specific supply chain needs.”
The platform will also make use of Microsoft Dataverse, a data management system, to improve visibility and allow organisations to respond to changes in the supply chain.
Microsoft are currently previewing an aspect of the platform, the Microsoft Supply Chain Center, which it hopes will provide a “command centre” experience for practitioners to harmonise data from across existing supply chain systems. While it is being previewed, its launch partners, C H Robinson, FedEx, FourKites, and Overhaul, will offer native experiences within the Supply Chain Center.
