Marks and Spencer is proposing to move operations out of the DHL distribution centre at Rowley Road in Coventry.
It has also decided that it will not be renewing its lease on space it uses at Li & Fung’s multi-user site in Leicester.
The retailer is shifting operations away from smaller distribution centres to several larger centres, including its sites at Castle Donington and Bradford.
Should the proposal with DHL, which owns and operates the site at Rowley Road, go ahead, operation will cease in the first quarter, April to June, of Marks & Spencer’s financial year.
Alongside this, the retailer has informed logistics firm Li and Fung, which operates the multi-user site in Leicester, that it will not be renewing its existing lease set to finish in the summer.
A spokesperson for Marks & Spencer said: “We are changing our supply chain operations to ensure they are fit for the future. These announcements are no reflection of the on-site performance or the employees, they have been made as part of our long-term supply chain transformation programme to deliver a more efficient M&S. We understand that it will be an unsettling time for those involved and we will do all we can to support.”
