DP World has invested in two new Hyster empty container handlers which will allow it to create more capacity in the terminal’s empty park.
The container handlers can tandem lift two empty 40ft containers and stack higher than the terminal’s current machines. The Hyster machines are compliant to the latest euro emission standards and will improve efficiency levels.
The introduction of the container handlers is part of DP World’s plans to redevelop its Southampton terminal. In the next two years DP World Southampton will invest in four more machines, replacing its fleet with fuel efficient and environmentally friendly machines.
“This investment in new equipment is part of our strategy to continually review our assets, infrastructure and performance, so that we can deliver the best possible service and productivity to our customers in a sustainable way,” said DP World UK chief operating officer Nick Loader.
DP World Southampton is expecting 12 new hybrid straddle carriers from Kalmar later this year.
