Nike UK has signed a 20-year lease agreement with GLP for a 1.3 million ft² logistics campus at Magna Park Corby in Northamptonshire.
The site is set to become ‘the principal hub of Nike’s UK supply chain’. The campus will be comprised of warehousing and offices, as well as sports and recreation facilities, in a single building.
It is targeting BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ certification and net zero carbon in construction.
This follows the news in February 2023 that the fashion and sportswear brand was looking for a sustainable warehouse base in the Midlands totalling over over 1 million ft².
According to GLP, Magna Park Corby will ‘be designed with wellness in mind’, featuring running tracks, outdoor gyms, multi-use game areas and recreation areas. It is also set to benefit from ‘an exercise route of 5.76km, a 2km nature trail, and 3.7km of other footpaths’.
Bruce Topley, UK managing director at GLP, commented: “We are delighted to be welcoming Nike to Magna Park Corby. This new site will help boost skills and generate high-quality jobs.
“The industry-leading, bespoke building will minimise carbon footprint and embed health and wellbeing. This investment is a great vote of confidence in the East Midlands and will help propel much-needed long-term growth across the region.”
Sitting within the so-called ‘Golden Triangle’, Corby – and the East Midlands in general – remains a key area for UK warehousing and distribution. Data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) published in 2022 showed that the share of transport and storage businesses in the Midlands increased sharply over the ten-year period from 2011 to 2021.
In this timeframe, the number of transport and logistics units as a percentage of the total businesses units grew by 14.3% in North Northamptonshire, where Magna Park Corby sits.
