PepsiCo has said that it will double its climate goal, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across its supply chain by more than 40% by 2030, and will aim for net-zero emissions by 2040.
The company plans to reduce absolute greenhouse gas emissions across its direct logistics operations by 75%, and its indirect supply chain by 40% by 2030.
Ramon Laguarta, Chairman and CEO at PepsiCo said: “The severe impacts from climate change are worsening, and we must accelerate the urgent systemic changes needed to address it.
“Our ambitious climate goal will guide us on the steep but critical path forward — there is simply no other option but immediate and aggressive action.”
Silviu Popovici, Chief Executive Officer, PepsiCo Europe added: “PepsiCo’s new climate goal will double our efforts on emission reductions. This impacts both our company-owned businesses but also includes our suppliers and bottlers. Simply put, we all have to do more.”
As part of its climate goal initiative, the company will reduce the use of virgin plastics in its supply chain, as well as upgrading its manufacturing, warehousing, and transportation sites, to be more environmentally friendly.
PepsiCo is engaged in multiple coalitions aimed at driving action on climate change, including the One Trillion Trees initiative, The Climate Group’s RE100 and We Are Still In.
