A new 632,000ft² beverage can manufacturing facility has reached practical completion at Delta Park in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.
The unit is a bespoke design for Crown Packaging Manufacturing and is the company’s “largest beverage can manufacturing facility in Europe”. It is hoped that this development will provide “hundreds of jobs” for those in Peterborough and the surrounding areas.
Crown’s director of project management and engineering, Richard Ford, said: “Achieving practical completion of our new state-of-the-art facility marks the transition of this major construction project into a high-speed aluminium beverage can manufacturing operation serving the demand of our customers in the UK and contributing to employment in the Peterborough region for many years to come.”
Following the demolition of a Mars Petcare plant in 2014, the 30-acre brownfield site was transformed by Trebor Developments alongside Hillwood Investment Properties from 2021.
Greg Dalton, Trebor’s development director, commented: “We are delighted to have reached practical completion on this significant project for all parties involved, and one that has huge local and regional significance.
“Our project management team, technical consultants and legal representatives have worked tirelessly to get this over the line on a programme that has meant that we achieved practical completion and Crown starting their production simultaneously. We have no doubt the facility will be a big success for Crown.”
Trebor Developments was named as a finalist in the inaugural ‘Property Partner of the Year’ category at the 2023 Supply Chain Excellence Awards. To find out more about the results on the night, check out the coverage of the event in the December issue of Logistics Manager!
According to Trebor, the facility includes offices that will act as a headquarters for Crown. Plus, there is also a “fully-automated clad rack system” on site.
Crown Packaging Manufacturing was represented by KPMG, while Avison Young and Gerald Eve represented Trebor Developments.
