Vegetarian meat substitute manufacturer is to remove over 297 tonnes of black packaging from its supply chain before July 2018 to achieve its goal of being a leader in sustainable nutrition with 100% recyclable, reusable or compostable packaging by 2025.
Quorn altered its packaging strategy after WRAP disclosed that black packaging was being sent to landfills rather than being recycled in 2017. Since April 2018, a majority of Quorn packing has phased out the use of black packaging and in June most of the chilled range will be switch to white recyclable plastics.
Quorn Foods CEO Kevin Brennan said: “we are committed to reducing all forms of food waste in our supply chain and to promoting and advancing sustainability”.
